The Indie studio, Hello Games, has developed No Man’s Sky. Released for the PlayStation4 and Windows in August 2016, and then the Xbox One on July 2018. It is an Action-Adventure, survival game designed around exploration, trading, survival, and combat.
This game takes open-world gaming to another dimension entirely. You, as the player, can play throughout an open-world universe, which is so large that it contains over eighteen quintillion planets. (That is 18, followed by 18 zeros!)

The development of those 18 quintillion planets is through a procedurally generated system. In computing, that system is a method of creating data with a combination of algorithms, computer-generated randomness, and human-generated assets. As a result, this method helps to create textures and models with ease, allowing you a vast expanse of gameplay, with a minimal install size.
Based on the science fiction writings and artwork from the ’70s and ’80s, this game has an instant feel of retro gaming, while the method of world creation keeps the feeling much more up to date. It may be the perfect blend for someone looking for a retro game without the limits of an old game.
No Man’s Sky has been committed to by Hello Games to continually update, expand, and improve the game to achieve the experience and vision that they still hold. The game has also received multiple free updates since its release, adding multiplayer ability, surface vehicles, space fleet management, and base-building. The creators have even added virtual reality support to the game.
You can play No Man’s Sky either as a first or third-person perspective. The player, you, take on the role of a species of alien-humanoid explorer of planets. You are the Traveller in an unexplored universe, and furthermore, it is your job to explore it. After crashing your spacecraft on a remote planet at the edge of an unknown galaxy, you are left to fend for yourself.
Luckily, however, you do have some tools to help you on your way:
- A survival Exosuit including a jetpack. – Of course, the Exosuit will help you be defended from attacks and unknown atmospheres, while the jetpack will assist you in maneuvering throughout the planets.
- Multitool. – This multitool is not your average multitool. It can be used to scan for nearby resources, mine them, and help you defend yourself or even attack creatures and other unknown hostiles.
The items that you collect throughout the first planet will assist you in building and repairing your space ship. In turn, this will allow you to refuel it so that you can travel the world more than your jetpack will allow.
All of the data of the planets, mining recourses and things like the space stations remain stored on the game’s servers. Not having the data locally stored ensures that all players will see the same elements as each other. However, the recording of these changes is not constant. Small changes such as mining of resources will revert to default after the player has left that area. Although substantial changes, such as destroying space stations, will be permanent.
PlayStation and Windows have different servers, which means there is no cross-platform gaming on No Man’s Sky Download PC.

Future Of No Man’s Sky
There is the potential for extension to the game through downloadable content. That content is likely to be in the form of new features rather than extra content. “Hello Games” have indicated that some of the additions may be in the form of base building and the ability to purchase freighters. It also appears that Sony will be releasing these updates; therefore, they will be freely available to all.
